On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, the Men’s Club’s own Stephen Gilbert spoke about his retirement career as an author. Steve has published thirteen novels, all of which are available in the Villages Library and for sale in both paperback and kindle versions on Amazon.com. The man who couldn’t settle for one career hasn’t settled for one genre. His books range from children’s stories, to crime, to science fiction, to fantasy.
Steve has been a house/commercial building painter, held various management positions for Longs Drugs, and later worked as a commissioned sales representative, selling a variety of products, from novelties to cosmetics to gourmet foods to retailers throughout the Bay Area. He then went back to school and earned an elementary teaching credential. He taught grades one through six in schools from Hayward to Milpitas, and also spent time mentoring new teachers. Steve spent the last twelve years of his career as an elementary principal in schools in Gilroy and Mountain View.
